In the evening breeze when all is still and the world is in a moment of repose, I am aware that in my center of being, in the heart of matter, God is. The indwelling Spirit of Self that is the fullest and most complete part of me resides within, waiting only on welcome. It does not intrude, is not rude, is not devious or manipulative. It simply IS. And as we go about the daily chores and process of seeking to find this elusive place we all yearn for - this space out of time that is our true home - it is simply waiting within for our moment of recognition when we turn attention away from all that glitters and seek first the Kingdom of God.
Jesus came to teach us this. So did Buddha and Krishna and so many others who saw truth and sought to pass it on. Yet, the ego, in its continuous role as pretender to the throne, would take the truth and twist it just a little this way and that to accommodate its function of individuality. In its seeking for affirmation and attention, it became forgetful of its true role as the mouthpiece for the indwelling Spirit. Like a servant to the master, who believes when the Master is gone that it can do all things - but cannot, the ego seeks elevation to a status for which it was never created or intended. Yet, this is the way of the world.
The Christ is the light of God that is in everything. It is God participating in its creation and playing all the parts. Yet, in order to make the "game" of life more intriguing, part of creation has forgotten what it truly is, and the task is for each portion to find its way Home...back to its central Self through awakening to the fullness of Itself. In that respect, earth and the manifested universe are the portion that has split from the host body and are assigned to the realm of space/time forgetfulness whereby they are a playground for the soul of Creation. It is in this realm where awakening to true Self will take place sooner or later...in a current life or one yet to come.
As Jesus, who came portraying the Christ, his function was to show us all that God dwells within, and that the only way to merge into God is through the Christ within. Unfortunately, the ego of the world grasped an opportunity to deny its own demise as premier entity and turned the tide to discredit the Christ. It was the ego that crucified the Christ and the reasoning behind Jesus' statement on the cross, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." The not knowing was the great travesty against ourselves, for we allowed the ego to crucify the indwelling God of each one of us. Ego crucified Spirit. And in that moment, the thunder and lightning was the signal that ego had gone against its own light body in favor of its misplaced loyalty to its own desire for supremacy.
The problem for ego is that it cannot be predominant eternally because it is transitory. It is not an eternal part of our nature, but is that portion which is used within a lifetime to be the individuated vehicle of expression to carry the true us through space and time. When its function is complete, it is laid to rest with the flesh, to be reused in a different form, while the eternal Spirit returns again and again to its true Home in God from whence it is once again resurrected and sent out into the world for another round of exploration and experience until such time as it no longer remains in a state of amnesia. When illumination occurs, the Self merges in the Light of Christ and becomes at one with the One, never needing to go forth again, save by choice.
