Vulnerability is one of the greatest strengths imaginable because it holds no need to defend itself or protect an image of self. If someone attacks its honor, it can turn the other cheek and walk away. Or it can soulfully look at the accuser and express sorrow for a perceived slight or disrespect. Disarming the enemy is not about fighting fire with fire, it is about reminding the other that at core you are both the same. It is a willingness to yield without need to protect your image. The image that would be protected is merely that of the ego portion, and when we understand who we really are, that is unnecessary. We are in fact of One substance and One Being.
The Path of Liberation shows us that when we take a stance of defensiveness, we are always vulnerable to attack because we project attack energy, and so we bring to ourselves the very thing we are afraid of. Being defensive is born of fear and is a mis-identification with oneself as separate from others and somehow not worthy of being included or inclusive of all. So as we say there is nothing to defend and nothing to protect, we see that who we are at core has nothing to hide or hold over anyone else because it recognizes there is no one else but the One of whom we are all part, and therefore to defend oneself against a seeming other is merely defending ourselves from our true self.
Concern about defending and protecting property or loved ones is all an extension of this theme. As long as we are living in a state of illusion about what is real and what is not, we will be put in situations where those things we hold dear are threatened. However, when each comes to the realization that we are all One, there will be no need to defend or protect because there will be no need to attack.
This is a process toward liberation that is required of all in order to achieve the ultimate reality of a unified field. So as much as in the physical reality there appears to be a need to defend something, we can begin to work at the inner levels on disarming our weapons of defense and living in accord with who we truly are, who needs no defense.
