A Gift of Winter

In a few days, we will officially enter the season of winter. In winter we feel it is acceptable to be quieter.  We stay inside  because weather conditions are often harsh (unless we live in milder climates).  Winter is a perfect season to make more time for ourselves. We  have permission to rest more and to snuggle in earlier because it’s cold and dark out.

Curling up by the fire with a good book is a wonderful image. Yet,  taking care of ourselves and making more discretionary time available is something we can bring into the remainder of the year as well. It’s a choice we make, and one that affects the quality of our wellbeing, just like choosing to take a certain amount of our income and pay ourselves/savings before we pay anyone else.

Each contribution brings large dividends later because we have taken care of the basics first. When we leave winter, let’s not leave ourselves behind for the next 9 months. Let’s make time for wellbeing in different forms that reflect each season and contribute to the quality of our lives.
